Playing the Game
1. Submit registration information on or before the suspense date established by the Meet Director.
2. Report to registration when you first arrive at a meet.
3. Pay attention and do not talk during the pre-meet briefings. Read and understand information provided with handouts or posted on a web page. If you don't understand, ask one of the meet sponsors.
4. Arrive at the start area at least ten minutes before your start time.
5. Pack your map, clue sheet, and score card securely in a map case. Secure the package with a staple so as not to loose items on the course.
6. Move away from the map table as soon as possible.
7. Do not follow or talk to other runners.
8. Move away from the control as soon as you punch.
9. Turn in your score care at finish when you return. If you have lost your score card, report in and make sure the finish personnel understand that you have return with no score care.
10. Check in with your group leader when you return.
Safety
1. Remember and/or write down the published emergency bearing and instructions. If you become lost, follow the emergency instructions.
2. Carry a watch with you. Note the time you started and make sure you return within the allotted time.
3. Carry a whistle with you. If you are lost, blow 1 second blast - 2 times. Blow the 1 second/2 times sequence ever 3 minutes. The 1-2-3 rule. Do not blow the whistle unless you are lost or for an emergency.
4. Make sure you run the course that matches your experience and physical capability. If you don't know - ask one of the meet sponsors.
5. Wear appropriate clothing.
6. If the temperature is warm, drink lots of water before you go on the course and then drink some at each water stop.
7. Do not enter water when you can't see the bottom.
8. Assist other runners if they have been injured.
9. Comply with off limit and hazard areas notes on the map.
10. Wear long a sleeve top and long pants.
11. Spray for mosquitos and ticks before running the course. If ticks are a threat, change cloths as soon as possible after you return. Take a bath as soon as possible. Inspect your entire body several times a day - for several days after exposure.
12. Do not set on the forest floor or log without fully inspecting for spiders and snakes.
13. Watch for small, dry tree limbs that might injure an eye. Wear eye safety glasses if necessary.
Environmental Awareness
1. Do not enter environmentally sensitive areas when flagged or streamered.
2. Do not tamper with park property, i.e. signs, benches, bridges, etc.
3. Do not litter the forest with maps, score and clue cards, water bottles, etc.
4. Secure your map, clue sheet, and score card in your map case with a staple.
5. Deposit water cups in an appropriate container.
6. Do not climb over fences and gates.
7. Do not pick flowers, cut limbs, or carry off park property.
8. Use an authorized toilet - before you run.
9. When feasible, carry out litter when you find it.
10. Report environmental damage when you return.
11. Be courteous to and show respect for other users of the forest.
12. Do not interfere in wildlife's routines or habitat, i.e. chase ducks, damage animal holes, throw sticks at rabbits, etc.
